As the year draws to a close, it’s time to pause, reflect, and—most importantly—rest. For many of us, this year has been the fastest yet, and the past few months have been a whirlwind. Ending my first year in business with the rush of Halloween that came all too fast, to the intense energy of a heated presidential election, and navigating the festivities of holidays amid family dysfunction, the season left me feeling utterly drained. Maybe you can relate? Maybe avoiding the chaos of the next major holiday might be the best form of self-care.
This year, I’ve chosen to do just that. As I write this, I’m tucked away in Southeast Asia with my husband, finally on our long-overdue honeymoon, blissfully avoiding the holiday noise. And I’m reminded that rest is not only necessary but healing. Nature teaches us this lesson so perfectly—winter is its time to slow down, to retreat, to allow for restoration in preparation for the next season of growth. Trees aren’t in a rush to put out new leaves. Flowers aren’t blooming. The earth takes a breath, and so should we.
The nights are longer now. The air is colder. We naturally seek warmth and comfort, gravitating indoors to find quiet and stillness. It’s a gentle reminder to shift our focus, turn inward, and rest. There is beauty in the dark quiet too...
This year's vibrant displays of the aurora all over the world emphasize the calm beauty found in the cold months. So, let’s embrace the colors in the night sky, the beauty of winter, and give ourselves permission to rest and simply sit and watch the lights pass by.
Because just like nature, we’re not meant to produce all year long. Let's take this time to recharge, reflect, and restore. We've made it through another year. We've earned a rest.
